Nikwax Tech Wash – Technical Cleaner for Waterproof Clothing

Nikwax Tech Wash is a specialist cleaner designed to safely clean waterproof, breathable and outdoor clothing while helping maintain the performance of technical fabrics.

Unlike conventional laundry detergents, Tech Wash is specifically formulated for waterproof outdoor gear. It effectively removes dirt and residues while helping to revitalise Durable Water Repellency (DWR) and restore breathability.

Ideal for walking, shooting, gamekeeping, farming and general outdoor clothing, it’s an essential care product for keeping waterproof jackets, trousers and other technical garments performing properly.

Restores Water Repellency & Breathability

Dirt and conventional laundry detergent residues can reduce the performance of waterproof clothing.

When the outer fabric begins absorbing water rather than allowing it to bead and run off, the garment can become heavier and its breathability can be significantly reduced.

Nikwax Tech Wash cleans away contaminants while revitalising the garment’s existing DWR, helping the outer fabric resist water and allowing the breathable membrane to work effectively.

Why Not Use Normal Laundry Detergent?

Conventional laundry detergents can leave water-attracting residues on technical fabrics.

These residues can interfere with the garment’s Durable Water Repellent finish, causing the outer material to absorb water or “wet out”.

Tech Wash is specifically designed to clean waterproof fabrics without leaving these residues behind.

You Don’t Need to Reproof Every Time

One particularly useful feature of Tech Wash is that cleaning a garment doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to be re-waterproofed afterwards.

Nikwax advises that with regular care, equipment may typically be cleaned 5–6 times with Tech Wash before re-waterproofing is required.

When cleaning alone no longer restores water beading on the fabric surface, an appropriate Nikwax waterproofing treatment can then be applied.

Easy Washing Machine Application

Nikwax Tech Wash can be conveniently used in a washing machine.

Nikwax recommends:

• Remove detergent build-up from the washing machine dispenser
• Wash a maximum of 2 garments
• Use 100ml in soft water
• Use 150ml in medium/hard water
• Wash on a 30°C synthetic cycle with slow spin
• Do not use conventional detergent

Tech Wash can also be used for hand washing. Always follow the garment manufacturer’s care instructions.
