Nikwax Polar Proof – Waterproofing for Fleece & Synthetic Insulated Clothing

Nikwax Polar Proof is a specialist wash-in waterproofing treatment developed to protect and enhance the performance of fleece and synthetic insulating clothing.

It adds Durable Water Repellency (DWR) to fleece fibres, helping prevent the fabric from holding excessive water while maintaining the breathability and insulating properties that make fleece so effective as an outdoor mid-layer.

Ideal for walking, shooting, gamekeeping, farming and general country wear, Nikwax Polar Proof helps keep your favourite fleece garments performing effectively in damp and wet conditions.

Helps Keep Fleece Warmer & Drier

Although synthetic fleece fibres absorb very little water themselves, water can collect in the spaces between the fibres.

According to Nikwax, fleece can hold up to 50% of its own weight in water. This additional moisture increases the garment’s weight and reduces its ability to provide effective insulation.

Polar Proof adds water repellency to the individual fibres, reducing water retention and helping your fleece remain lighter, warmer and more comfortable in wet weather.

Maintains Breathability

Waterproofing a fleece shouldn’t mean compromising its breathability.

Nikwax Polar Proof leaves a flexible water-repellent treatment on the individual fibres while allowing moisture vapour to escape through the garment. This helps maintain breathability while improving performance in damp conditions.

Helps Reduce Pilling

In addition to improving water repellency, Polar Proof helps inhibit pilling of fleece fabrics.

Easy Wash-In Application

Polar Proof can be applied in a washing machine or by hand.

For best results, Nikwax recommends cleaning garments first with Nikwax Tech Wash in a separate wash cycle and applying Polar Proof while the item is still wet. Conventional laundry detergents should not be used.

For machine washing, Nikwax recommends:

• 1 garment: 50ml
• 2–3 garments: 100ml
• Maximum of 3 garments per treatment
• Wash using a 30°C synthetic cycle with slow spin

The water-repellent treatment develops during air drying, so tumble drying is not required.
