Description
Hotline Fieldmate 47FF10 Electric Fence Fault Finder
The Hotline Fieldmate 47FF10 combines an electric fence voltage tester with a directional fault-finding system, helping you quickly identify problems that are reducing the performance of your electric fence.
Instead of simply confirming whether the fence is live, the Fieldmate provides a voltage indication and can direct you towards a fault when fence voltage drops below the required level.
Measures Electric Fence Voltage
The LED voltage indicator provides readings between:
1,000V and 10,000V (1kV–10kV)
This allows you to check fence performance at different points along the fence line and identify areas where voltage has fallen significantly.
Directional Electric Fence Fault Finding
The real advantage of the Fieldmate is its directional fault indicator.
When fence voltage falls below 4,000V, the fault-detection system activates. Directional LEDs then help indicate which way along the fence you should move to locate the problem.
This can significantly reduce the time spent walking fence lines trying to find faults.
Indicates the Severity of the Fault
The horizontal LED array also provides an indication of the approximate load caused by the fault.
Hotline specifies:
- 1 LED – approximately 0.5J loss
- 2 LEDs – approximately 1.0J loss
- 3 LEDs – approximately 2.0J loss
- 4 LEDs – approximately 4.0J loss
This provides more information than a conventional electric fence voltage tester.
Helps Locate Common Electric Fence Problems
The Hotline Fieldmate can make it easier to trace problems caused by:
- Vegetation touching the fence
- Broken or damaged fence wire
- Damaged insulators
- Poor electrical connections
- Fence wire touching posts or other objects
- Shorts to earth
- Faulty joins
- Other sources of excessive current loss
Testing at different points and following the directional indication helps narrow down the location of a fault.
Self-Earthing Design
A particularly useful feature of the 47FF10 Fieldmate is that it is self-earthing.
This makes testing quicker in the field because a separate earth lead and ground probe aren’t required for normal operation.
Low Battery Indicator
The Fieldmate also incorporates a low-battery LED, so you can see when its own battery needs attention. Hotline states that the battery is included.
Ideal for Game Rearing & Release Pens
This is a particularly useful electric fencing tool for gamekeepers and game rearers.
Electric fencing around rearing fields and release pens may cover considerable distances and pass through vegetation, making faults difficult to locate visually.
A directional fault finder can help quickly identify voltage loss before reduced fence performance compromises your predator-control system.
Suitable for:
- Pheasant rearing pens
- Partridge rearing

Find Electric Fence Faults Faster
Checking an electric fence with a conventional voltage tester can tell you that there is a problem, but it doesn’t necessarily tell you where the problem is.
The Hotline Fieldmate 47FF10 goes a step further by indicating the direction of a fault, making it a useful maintenance tool for larger and more complicated electric fencing installations.
